I just got a request for some detailed instructions about the blog.
To make it easier, I've switched it so you don't have to register to make comments on the blog. If you want to respond or make coments to any of the main stories on the blog, just click at the bottom of the story where it says "0 Comments" and you will go to a screen that will show all the comments on that story.
On the top right side of the screen is a little box to post your comment. Don't worry about the size of the box, you can type as much as you'd like. When you've finished your comment, you have three choices:
You can post as a "Blogger" if you've registered with the site.
You can post as "Other" and leave your name.
You can post as "Anonymous" and leave off your name. (Though it would be better to know who you are.)
When you click one of the three choices, it will ask for a little more information. If you sign in as a "blogger" it will ask for your username and password. If you sign in as "other" it will ask for your name and website, but you don't need to enter a website. You can leave that blank. If you sign in as "anonymous" you don't need to enter a name at all.
Just under that part is a wierd-looking bit of letters. You just have to type these letters out in a little box beneath the wierd-looking letters. This seems silly, but it's to make sure that roving automated computers don't fill our blog with junk-mail. It's the blog's way of knowing you're a person and not a computer. Computer's have trouble reading the wierd-looking letters.
After you enter the letters, there are two final boxes. You can either click on the blue one, "Log In and Publish" to post your comment, or you can click the grey "Preview" button to just see you your comment will look without posting it.
Whoa! After typing it out, it looks really complicated, but I'm just trying to not leave out any details. This just works for posting comments to the main posts. If you want to start main posts on the blog, please email me and I can send you an invitation to be a member of the blog. I sent invitations last night to everyone who gave me their email at the meeting. If you didn't get an invitation, please email me at frankrause@hotmail.com and I'll send you one right away.

From Darryl Harris
Great job Fran, I read the minutes from the meeting at the YMCA. I was present at the meeting and am pleased and impressed with the results and progress. Not a bad start.
Anyway, I am Darryl Harris, owner of 139 Madison Street for the past 10 years. I didn't really attended the meetings organized by the last Block Assoc.,due to a very busy schedule and impatience for an inexperienced Block Assoc. Now, I have a less hectic schedule and a lot more patience. I'm sure that I will be more involved this time around.
I am a computer operator (40 hours a week) and I've never "blogged" before... (I hope that's the correct term). I don't know what it is or how its used, although I have heard of it before. Residents may be confused about how to sign up. I attempted to sign up, but am not sure if I actually did sign up. We (or I), need clarification on this. Some, may not be computer savvy. I'm not and its my job. Although I'm mainframe competent, not PC competent.
I believe the residents of Madison St. are genuinely concerned and will be more involved when we have knowledgeable, dedicated, responsible officers who can properly maintain a block association and motivate the many tenants on Madison St. to step up and take control of what belongs to us as residents and hard working, taxpaying citizens.
Our block is like the garden on the block, "without resident support and members to maintain and protect it, they will take it." "They", being the city or the drug dealers or whomever.
Tony Saunders should be so overwhelmed with calls from Madison Street residents that it would be in his best interest to resolve our problem.
We need a strong block association. We should all recruit our neighbors to come to the meetings. Kisha stayed on me and I needed that. Others may need the same.
We have attained speed bumps through the last block association and gotten rid of a drug spot near the Bedford Avenue side of Madison Street. Now we need to work on drug situations on the Nostrand Avenue side of Madison Street. Without fail. Not an option. Must go. Cannot allow it. Sorry. See ya. You gotta go... Make it happen.
Lastly, let's get a definition on "Block Captain", I am considering this position.
P.S. Feel free to post my thoughts on our Madison Street Block Association Blog, (whatever "BLOG" means...
Thank you for listening (reading),
D. Harris

December 9th Meeting
I just wanted to summarize what we discussed in our meeting tonight.
The interm members of the board were elected tonight. Their terms will run for the next six months.
Toya Williford - President
Christian Davis - Vice President
Andrew Robinson - Treasurer
Kisha Sigler - Secretary
Fran Krause - Assistant Secretary
From now on, we'll be meeting on the first Saturday of every month at 7pm!
Toya said that her mailbox was at 182A Madison, for suggestions.
We talked for a while about pooling our knowledge to figure out which houses on the block are abandoned and are sources of trouble.
Our Community Liason at the 79th Precinct is Tony Saunders. His number is 718 636-6626. Call him with your problems. Make some noise.
The garden located near the North East corner of the block seems to have some interest in it. we have some shovels and other tools, and there were a few people interested in planting and working on it. It's ours so long as it's maintained. If it ever falls into neglect, the city can sell it.
The contractor that built the new wide building on the south side of the block near the eastern end seems to be in trouble due to bad building practices. I didn't really get all the different people & companies involved with this one, can someone refresh our memories?
There was mention of using the unused buletin board on the convenience store on the South West corner of the block for our announcements.
Rachel Hernandez is in touch with the government agency that distributes paint for anti-grafitti programs and is looking for the right green for the mailboxes.
The alternate side parking regulations cards were passed out. The same information is available here: Click Here
Also there was talk of the city program that plants trees. Yeah, they're a bit backordered and slow, but if you'd like to order a tree there is an easy form on the internet. Click Here.
That's all I can remember right now. I'm new at the Assitant Secretary job, I'll probably remember a bunch of things as soon as I post this.

Welcome!
This blog is a space for the residents of Madison Street, between Bedford and Nostrand Ave, to openly discuss the issues we feel are important to our block.
CLICK HERE to sign up for the blog. You'll make a username first. Once you've done that, just send your username and email address to me at frankrause@hotmail.com and I can sign you up to post on the blog. You can then start your own posts and discussions.
I could also use some suggestions for links to put on our page. I just have a few on the right side of the page right now.
